Social media – Boon or Bane?

We live in a time where technology is amazing! What better time in the history of human kind to be alive!

You probably are even reading this article on one of the social media platforms!

As with anything, social media comes with it’s own pitfalls.

“I just get sucked into Facebook, once I take a peek for even a 5 minute break”.

Does this sound like you?

Once you are in, you could have spent half an hour or an hour on it without getting all the other work that needs to be done and you then lament for having taken that 5 minute peek. Or at night when you need to sleep, you open WhatsApp to check if there are any messages and voila, it is nearly 2 hours later than your bed time! Or the most common thing, when your friend is talking to you, you are checking your mobile constantly.

How about this one ladies, we get sucked into shopping sites and keep browsing – even though we don’t shop.

We all need to make sure social media works for us, not the other way round!

Here are some tips to help you get de-addicted..

  1. Uninstall some common time-sucking apps from your mobile (games, Facebook, WhatsApp)
  2. Make sure you put your phone on silent when catching up with friends or family
  3. Leave the phone at the door when you enter someone’s house – so you can have a good time without the distraction of your phone.

It is always up to you how you want to live your life – don’t let it pass by through social media distraction.

What is your biggest social media distraction and how do you intend to overcome it?

I would love to hear from you.
