Happy New Year folks!
A new year is a good time to reflect on the past year and think about what you want for the coming year.
If you are someone who sets goals, then you can check this article. It will help you set goals that are achievable.
However, if you struggle with what goals to set or from past experience think that this is hard, then you need to first answer this question – “what is your version of success?”.
Dictionary defines success as ‘the accomplishment of an aim or purpose’.
The reason you set goals is to achieve something that you currently don’t have – be it money, health, relationships or anything you desire in your life. Many of you look up to a successful person, often from a career perspective and think success means achieving a certain position in your career and earning high income.
This is a good way to get motivated. However, the danger with this approach is that you get caught in someone else’s version of success!
So, here is what you can do to define your version of success. Before you can start, I urge you to think of success in terms of what ever your life needs at this point in time – taking into account family, health and anything else that you and your soul desire.
Think of this as a ritual. Find a quiet time away from distractions (phone, email, kids) and get into a relaxed mode. Have a glass of water next to you. If you have a favourite candle, light it! Have some paper and pen handy.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself in one of your favourite holiday spots. There is a gentle breeze and you can hear birds chirping. Your mind is very relaxed and there is nothing that you need to do. You are here, at this time, to ask yourself and the Universe to guide you – to define your version of success.
Once you find yourself relaxed, answer these questions:
• What was the one thing that you are proud of in 2018?
• What is the one thing you want to leave behind?
• What are you grateful for?
• Anything else about 2018?
Without any judgement for what you have written, thank the Universe and your higher self for a year that has gone by – for all your experiences.
Now get ready to welcome 2019!
Sitting quietly, allow yourself to dream and imagine. Ask yourself the questions below and write down whatever comes to you (don’t overthink because the first answers to come to you are mostly from your heart).
• What do you want in 2019? (Work/career, health, relationships, money, hobbies, spirituality)
• How do you want to feel?
• What do you want to learn?
• How can you grow and evolve?
Write as much as you need to. When you are done, sit quietly for a few minutes with your eyes closed and give thanks to yourself, your higher self and the Universe for guiding you through this process.
Remember, you are an individual – that means you are unique. Your life is not the same as someone else’s and it is ok to have your own version of success!
If you think the above is helpful, I would love to hear from you. Or, if you have another process that has worked for you, I would love to hear about that too!
Here’s to an awesome 2019!
